Hey, I'm planning a trip to Asheville soon and (yeah, this is morbid), want to see the hospital Zelda Fitzgerald passed her last years in.
A search shows the place has been turned into a shopping mall on Zillicoa Street.
Anyone have more info? Anyone interested in a commemorative drink over Labor Day weekend? Or know any other Fitzgerald sites in town you can recommend? I know somewhere near downtown there was a flat Scott rented while he was visiting... anyone know where it is? Thanks!

Re: Highland Hospital
Mon, August 24, 2009 - 7:00 PMIt's not a shopping mall. It has been converted from a hospital to a laboratory called Genova. I work there. It's a pretty cool place, though, in a neat neighborhood. All of the trolley tour lines go by it. I would say it is worth it to go by there. There is a big empty yellow mansion right next to it, where you could sit on the porch and have a drink. You would probably also want to check out Grove Park Inn, where her husband lived while she was committed. You can see the room where he lived and have a drink there, too. I don't know about a room downtown, I think it's the Grove Park you want. So yeah, go to Highland Hospital, now Genova Diagnostics on Zillicoa St., and then Grove Park Inn on Macon Ave. Hope you enjoy yourself! -
