Hey there,
I just started learning to spin poi, and was wondering if there may be a person or group that would take me in and teach me this beautiful art. I'm a very dedicated learner, and this is something that I want to be a big part of my life. If there is someone who would possibly take me on as basically my mentor, I think we could definitely mutually benefit each others' lives.

Thanks so much, and I hope to hear from you!

  • You should check out the "Asheville Fire" tribe - and post this there as well.

I spin regularly on Mondays at 1pm in the gravel parking lot outside the Wedge in the river arts district. It's an open spin for anybody, but most people dont have that time free - it has just been two of us for the past month. While I'm not offering lessons persay or mentoring, I'm sure you could learn a thing or two by dropping by.

And though you may not think so, watching youtube videos of tech spinning actually helps!

I'm always happy to teach others poi. Saturdays are my only free day, and I plan to host a beginner's poi workshop in early spring (March) followed by intermediate (aka on fire). I also teach fire eating, fans, and lotus palms, incorporating dance and partnering. I do not teach fire breathing b/c of the risks involved, but I'm happy to provide tips and tricks--proceed at your own risk!
      • I found this posting. Will you be doing any poi workshops anytime soon ?

I would love to offer a PUBLIC beginning poi workshop, but need to find an indoor space that would be large enough to accommodate upward of 8-10 people (max for a workshop as I like to observe one-on-one). Of course, if the nice weather keeps up I could easily host it outdoors. If you hear of a big space, please let me know! I will be happy to host a 3 hour workshop to teach basic poi moves.

          OR:

I'm happy to give PRIVATE poi lessons on Monday/Wednesday/Friday evenings or Saturday am/afternoons. (2-hour max lesson) $20/first lesson (includes your own pair of practice poi to keep), and $15/lesson after that. Can teach beginner or intermediate (aka "on fire"). Have safety materials incl. fire extinguisher and insurance. Have background in fire/theatre/ballet/pointe/partnering/hip-hop/choreography. I'm a patient, fun teacher! Also, in these economic times, I'm willing to barter services/goods instead of cash payment. Just let me know your financial situation. I just love teaching poi!
